Along For The Ride
Local radio is a very dynamic industry. It is constantly pulled between changing local audience tastes, national corporate interests and competition from satellite stations and podcasts. At one point there was a belief that morning radio was safe from the trend toward syndication since the morning drive is when local stations have the highest concentration of listeners. However, that turned out not true as more stations switched to national morning shows with local traffic breaks. In 2013, I spent time getting to know the faces behind the voices of morning radio in Charlotte, North Carolina. Specifically, I wanted to get to introduce you to the people we invite into our cars each morning and take along for the ride.
